Y’all have lost your minds. I say “y’all” for 2 reasons. First, because I’m black. Y’all is the universal slang colloquialism for you all for black folks. 2nd because I’ve lived in the South for almost 20 years. Y’all is the universal slang colloquialism for you all for southern folks. Now that we’ve squared that away, let’s get back to how y’all have lost your minds. Ok technically it is 2021. But I swear it still feels like 2020 and all its misery because I feel like 2021 wouldn’t do us like this. It’s like someone told 2020 that they were about to lose their spot and he was like “awww heck no I ain’t leavin'” then convinced a bunch of folks to help him hold on to 2020 and keep 2021 out.

Anyway, if you’re the parent of a special needs kid, they may or may not know or care what’s going on in the world. They still have to go to school, they still have to do homework…they still have to watch 90 Day Fiance (oh that might just be my 15 year old — did I mention she turned 15 a couple weeks ago?). So at some point we parents have to realize that as much as we want to crawl somewhere and lay under thick blankets with potato chips and M&Ms, we actually have to continue to parent our kids.

This parenting includes laundry and cooking and feeding and all that stuff that we forget still has to be done regardless of what’s going on in the world. But because we’re special needs parents, we are kind of used to being on autopilot so we just go go go and do do do. I will admit that there are 2 baskets of laundry that have yet to be folded and one load of whites in the dryer that may have taking a full 24 hours to be removed from the washer to get there…but I feel like I’m doing ok.

In the meantime, how are you doing? Is 2020 over for you? Let me know.
